Our institute focuses on faculty research and graduate training, as well as the development of undergraduate education and experiential learning opportunities. We engage and collaborate with our vibrant local and campus food communities.
The IU Food Institute is dedicated to the pressing human and environmental challenges of providing both sustaining and sustainable food for a changing planet. We collaborate with the Sustainable Food Systems Science faculty, who conduct applied research to study the social dimensions of food sustainability including culture, equity and justice in food provisioning from local to global. In Indiana and in research sites around the world, SFSS faculty examine the production, coordination, and consumption of food value chains and the supporting networks and decision-making from individual to organizational levels. Their engaged research and advocacy for innovative solutions center on the promotion of human thriving.
The Farm's mission is to promote sustainable food systems education through food production, research, creative activity, service, and outreach to the campus, community, and beyond. Through the sustainability know-how and the energetic optimism of IU students, staff, and faculty, we will plant the seeds of sustainability scholarship and practice.
